The Farmers have insisted that Kerala should not be given extra water
The Azhiyaru Old Strategic Irrigation Farmers Union submitted a petition to the Public Works Engineer. The petition states: – The water level in the Azhiyar dam is declining due to lack of rain.
Action should be taken immediately to obtain water from the Parambikulam Complex Dams, which has so far supplied water to the Azhiyar New Strategy and also to the Kerala Contribution Water and Drinking Water Projects.
Kerala is currently receiving several times more water than it should under the bilateral agreement. This should be rectified immediately to ensure the water availability of the dam for the next season. For many years water was supplied to Kerala on contract basis..
