The Farmers repairing the road at their own expense
The water released from Azhiyaru Dam near Pollachi is irrigated through 5 canals namely Ariyapuram, Vadakkalur, Periyanai, Pallivilangal and Karapatti in the old strategic irrigation system. The dirt road runs along this canal. Farmers carry fruits from their gardens along this road.
Meanwhile the dirt road became too bad to use. Following this, the farmers repeatedly petitioned the public works authorities to repair the road. But the authorities did not take any action.
This made it difficult for the farmers to transport their produce. Following this, the farmers were engaged in repairing the dirt road at their own expense yesterday.
