The Garlic prices fall in Mettupalayam market
There are garlic mandis in the Mettupalayam market. White garlic cultivated from the Nilgiris district is brought to these mandis for sale.
The garlic auction is usually held on Sundays. Currently the white garlic season is starting in the Nilgiris district. Last week, 7,000 bales of white garlic were brought to the Mettupalayam market for sale.
Thus, a kilo was sold for Rs. 120 to Rs. 170. But 15 thousand bundles of garlic had come to the market from the Nilgiris for sale.
Its price dropped as supply increased. Thus the Kg sold for Rs.70 to Rs.100. The Farmers are suffering due to the fall in garlic prices.
