The Gundam Festival started with the flag hoisting at the Anaimalai Thiravupathiamman Temple
There is a famous Dharmaraja Thiravupathiamman Temple in Anaimalai. The annual Gundam festival is celebrated at this temple.
This year’s Gundam Festival started with flag hoisting yesterday. On the 28th, a 70 feet long bamboo pole was cut down and special pujas were performed at the Mariamman Temple.
Then the pole was carried by the devotees and brought to the Thiravupathiamman temple. Devotees were fasting Mahasivarathri on the occasion of Shivarathri. As well as the temple walk Vidya, Vidya was kept open.
Devotees took the pole to the river bank for the flag hoisting ceremony and performed special pujas there. This was followed by a flag drum engraved with the image of Karutazhvar, built on a pole full of rhythm.
Devotees then carried the flag pole on their shoulders and brought it to the temple. The flagpole was planted there after performing special pujas. It was attended by a large number of devotees.
