The Koniyamman Temple, the guardian deity of Coimbatore, is celebrated every year in the month of February. This year’s temple festival kicked off last month with a potluck show on the 15th.
This was followed by the flag hoisting of the temple on the 22nd. Following this, Koniyamman visited Tiruvedi daily in various vehicles including lion, swan, white elephant and parrot in every attire to bless the devotees. Also, women used to pour water on the fire pole planted in the temple every day.
This was followed by the Koniyamman Thirukkalyanam on the heels of yesterday. In this, with the recitation of Othuvar Kannabhan’s Thirumurai, the devotees were surrounded by a faint cord for Koniyamman. A large number of devotees attended and worshiped the Goddess.
Meanwhile, for the past few days, the work of decorating the Koniyamman Therottam at Rajavithi Thermutti has been going on. The culmination of the festival, Therottam, was held yesterday afternoon.
In turn, the decorated Koniyamman Utsavar from the Coimbatore Koniyamman Temple awoke at dawn and was taken to the polling station on Rajavidhi. There Koniyamman awoke in the decorated shrine to chant the Veda Mantra.
