The basic dams of the Parambikulam Azhiyar project in the Valparai area are the Cholayaru Dam, the Upper Water Dam and the Lower Water Dam. The water stored in these dams is being opened to Kerala at various times as per the Tamil Nadu-Kerala river water sharing agreement.

During the southwest monsoon season, the Solayaru Power Station-2 is operated from the Solayaru Dam and the water is released to Kerala after generating electricity.

According to another agreement, from October 1 to January 31, all the water coming into the upper aquifer will have to be opened for the benefit of the wildlife and wildlife in Kerala.

Accordingly, the water supply, which was opened on October 1 last year in the presence of Valparai Public Works Department Water Resources Assistant Engineers and Kerala Public Works Department Engineers, was suspended from yesterday morning due to the expiration date.
