Urban local body polls are being held in Coimbatore district today (Saturday). 24 lakh 74 thousand 314 people are voting in this. Urban local government elections in Tamil Nadu were announced on the 26th of last month. Nomination was held from 28th to 4th.
Of these, 4,573 have filed nominations for a total of 811 seats in Coimbatore district. 146 nominations were rejected and 1,066 nominations were withdrawn. 9 were selected without contest.
Thus, only 802 seats in Coimbatore district will go to the polls today (Saturday). Of these, 778 are in the Municipal Corporation, 847 in the 7 Municipalities and 1,727 in the 33 Municipalities for a total of 3,352 persons in the field.
