A herd of 11 elephants entered the Nallakattu Estate tea plantation workers’ residence near Valparai at midnight. The herd of elephants broke down the door of the Chintamani ration shop near the residence and took away 2 bundles of ration rice from inside the shop and left.
The workers then walk through the apartment and camp in the woods adjacent to the nearby Nallakattu Estate compound. Foresters are involved in monitoring the area. At this point, a lone wild elephant crossed the road leading to the Valparai Cholayaru Dam in broad daylight in the Chelaliparai Estate area on the way from Valparai to the Cholayaru Dam and entered the tea plantation area.
Manikandan, a ranger who came to the spot after learning about this, chased the elephant into the nearby forest with the help of human-wildlife anti-poaching guards.
