There’s no cure for dengue only prevention protects.
Stating 342 dengue cases were reported across the state in the past two weeks alone, the health minister Ma Subramanian on Wednesday asked the district administration and local bodies to take adequate measures to contain its spread.
He said they had screened 86,000 people for the deadly fever during the period and 342 of them were found to be positive for dengue.
The minister said only 26,000 people were screened for dengue in the comparable period last year. “This year, we have conducted 60,000 more tests and it helped us identify many cases.” The minister was speaking after inaugurating a special newborn care unit at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.
There are 30 cases of dengue being treated at the hospital at present.
Here are some important tips to prevent dengue.
1. Remember to not fill the flower pots with excess water as stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
2. Apply mosquito repellant sprays on areas exposed to mosquitoes during the day and night.
3. If somebody in the house is infected with dengue, keep the doors and windows closed so that the mosquitoes do not bite them.
4. Some studies even say that planting a tulsi plant near your window can keep mosquitoes away.
