TIDCO to set Industrial Park in Coimbatore

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) Limited is all set to acquire 80.62 hectares (199.13 acres) of land spread across at Sulur taluk in Coimbatore district and Palladam taluk in Tirupur district for the aerospace and defence industrial park.

In a government order (no 147) at the beginning of this month, the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department had announced the plans to acquire around 2.75 hectares at Appanaickenpatti village, 36 hectares at Kadambadi village and 6.86 hectares at Kangeyampalayam village in Sulur taluk and 34.97 hectares at Paruvai village in Palladam taluk to set up the industrial park.

TIDCO would bear the land acquisition expenses of ₹140.19 crore and administrative expenses of ₹16.63 crore. The government has entrusted the Coimbatore district administration with the task of studying the area where land would be acquired and assess the value of buildings and trees there. “The Coimbatore and Tirupur district administrations should create 26 postings for the land acquisition,” the government order said.

The Codissia Defence and Innovation and Atal Incubation Centre (CDIIC) has, meanwhile, urged the state government to bring the US-based GE Aerospace to set up its unit at the park to manufacture aircraft engines.

“The US firm is planning to set up its plant to manufacture jet engines in India. The Odisha government is trying to invite the firm to set up the plant there. We have approached TIDCO and chief minister M K Stalin to invite GE Aerospace to set up its plant at the aerospace and defence industrial park. The entire land could be given to the US firm. If it comes to Coimbatore, other industrial sectors will benefit, as it will pave the way for thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities,” said M V Ramesh Babu, director, CDIIC.
