Tiruchendur – a dance ensemble to enthrall Coimbatore audience on Feb 26th
Karuna Sagari, Founder Director, Bhakti Natya Niketan during Meet the Press event held at the SIMA building, Coimbatore spoke about the dance production Tiruchendur. She runs a Bharatanatyam institute in Coimbatore which has worked on pedagogy, performance and outreach for the past 14 years.
Recalling that she hailed from a Tamil family entrenched in Tiruppugazh (Hymns on Lord Muruga) for four generations she was inspired to create this ensemble Dance Production titled ‘Tiruchendur’ and she intends to shed light on the philosophical significance of the Kanda Sashti Vizha at Tiruchendur, the shore temple of Muruga on the Bay of Bengal.
The Fundraiser concert is on the 26th of Feb, 2023 at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. She added that the music recordeding has been done professionally, featuring 7+ acclaimed musicians and 14+ folk and classical instruments in one of the best studios.
This is a part of the Global tour that she has planned across 5 continents to spread the Tiruchendur Murugan passion – the feeling of Murugans unarvu as we know it.
She said, “We would like to bring exposure to the younger generation about a living philosophy relevant to the human condition and present Bharatanatyam as an art that can transcend religious, linguistic and cultural boundaries to offer an introspective journey.”
She hopes to impact:
- Over 15,000 individuals directly and over 50,000 through Outreach concerts, Lecture demonstrations, Workshops and other educational and promotional efforts across the mentioned geographies
- Help create awareness and immersion into a rich shared heritage of the Tamils to the the next generation across the globe
- Make a unique artistic presentation to reach audiences around the globe in prestigious venues with state-of-the-art facilities
As regards the event, it has been fully almost booked though there will be spot tickets available at the venue, Cash will also be accepted.
