TNAU Vice-Chancellor conferred “Fellow of the Society for Promotion of Horticulture”
Prof. N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural Univesity, Coimbatore has been conferred “Fellow of the Society for Promotion of Horticulture” on the eve of foundation day of Society for Promotion of Horticulture on held at Indian Insitute of Horticultural Research (ICAR), Bengaluru on 8th February, 2019.
The award was conferred to him for his outstanding contribution in field of Horticulture. He has led twenty externally funded projects and played an active role in the development of 10 improved crop varieties and many technocrafted horticultural production technologies. His research contributions in drip fertigation technologies formed the basis for launching of the precision farming scheme by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
His passion for writing has contributed an array of publications including eight text books 14 book chapters, 52 international and 83 national research papers, 42 popular articles, 8 teaching and extension manuals and 14 technical bulletins to the science of Horticulture. The textbooks written by him are popular amongst the students and also served as source of by civil service aspirants and competitive examinations in agricultural research and extension servicews. Prof. N. Kumar is an inspiring teacher and research mentor and has guided twenty one postgraduate and thirteen Ph.D., scholars.
An able organizer Prof. N. Kumar successfully conducted 17 national and three international seminars and symposia. He has visited 15 countries and was instrumental in the signing of MoUs with several foreign universities for collaborative research programs with TNAU.
In recognition of contribution to Horticultural research and development, the Executive Committee of Society of Promotion of Horticulture conferred Prof. N. Kumar Fellow of the Society for Promotion of Horticulture for the year 2019.
