Self-financing Arts and Science colleges have urged the University Grants Commission ( UGC) to relax the eligibility criteria for Teachers’ recruitment at the undergraduate level.
The UGC is the statutory body responsible for coordinating, determining, and regulating standards of higher education in the country. Currently, as per UGC, only NET/SLET qualified are appointed as teachers in colleges.
Only a few students pass NET/SLET every year. So colleges were finding it hard to recruit teachers to teach at the UG level.
Some universities are hiring guest faculty members due to a lack of qualified teachers, whereas colleges are not allowed to do so. Easing the qualification is the only solution to fulfill the gap.
