Coimbatore. Vijay Shankar the all-rounder from the Indian Cricket team today inaugurated the National Model Cricket Academy at the National Model Schools campus. The Academy is a collaboration between the Bouncer Academy led by Mr. Thiyagarajan and National Model Schools. In a glittering ceremony, the academy was launched in the presence of Mr. Guruswamy, Coimbatore District Cricket Association Vice president & Chief Coach Ramakrishna School, and Mr. Sasi Kumar Samraj, Founder Chairman, of The Western Ghats International School.
Mr. Vijay Shankar during his address, the Indian All-rounder said it’s been a great ride getting into the cricket team and you need to be disciplined to get into the role, it has taught him a lot of things about how to lead life. Life would look better with an ECG and that’s with ups and downs. He was happy to be in Coimbatore and has a lot of memories of playing here which has had an impact on his career.
Mr. Thiyagarajan Chief Coach, Bouncers Academy, in his address lauded the school management for this effort. He had a lot of praise for the hero of the day – Vijay Shankar who had injuries but has made comebacks like no other and he was the epitome of hard work.
He also added that this would be a great opportunity for young talents to come from Coimbatore and hopefully we can have them representing the teams in leagues, Ranji and National teams. With the advent of IPL now the career opportunity is so wide with more than almost 10 teams in IPL and state level premier leagues it is easy to get into the league and make career and it needs a clear discipline and dedication on the part of the sportsmen to make it to the league.
Mr. Guruswamy, Coimbatore District Cricket Association Vice president & Chief Coach Ramakrishna School, said this is a very great effort and he would be happy to assist in anything related to Cricket and its the passion that takes him through every day at the nets at 3 pm.
Mr. Sasi Kumar Samraj, Founder Chairman, of The Western Ghats International School offered felicitations and said this would be a great opportunity for the students to make a mark as a sportsperson and with the kind of support from the management the students should make the full use of the facility.
Later Vijay Shankar had a chit chat with the students and wannabe cricketers at the nets. On a question about his role model he said Rahul Dravid was his role model.
Dr. P Mohan, Director and Correspondent of National Model Schools, and Mrs. Uma Mohan, Secretary of the School participated and coordinated the event.
As of now there are three ‘nets’ planned for the start and will be expanded as and when the academy sees an uptick in demand and the infrastructure will also be ramped up to meet the requirements accordingly. Bouncer Academy has deputed coaches to the Coimbatore Academy full time and they will be helping the players on all the aspects of the game. They would also have theory classes from time to time and the school is well equipped to handle that part with a audio visual facility for the same.
Initially this coaching academy will be open to public and will accommodate about 60 students, the best part is that it is open to both boys and girls. The age limit is from the sixth standard onwards. Unlike other coaching center’s, Dr. Mohan said this is a serious academy given the inputs from people who are presently coaching and who have coaching experience with Ranji, IPL teams.
