The 67th wildlife week celebration happened at the Tamilnadu Forest Academy. In that event Forest Minister Mr.K.Ramachandran said that the state government is taking steps to increase the state’s green cover from 23% to 33% and native tree species will be planted in forests.
Wildlife can thrive only if there is substantial forest cover, for which native tree species are necessary. School teachers should encourage students to plant saplings on their birthday and nurture them, Mr. K. Ramachandran said
Every year, India celebrates its Wildlife Week from 2nd to 8th October. This year’s theme is “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet”. In Tamilnadu, the Coimbatore district stands second in forest cover.
