World-Class VGM Multispecialty Hospital in Coimbatore to be Inaugurated on Sunday
VGM Hospital, India’s first NABH-accredited gastroenterology hospital, has expanded into a multi-specialty healthcare center in Coimbatore with advanced facilities and new specialties. This significant development allows the hospital to serve a broader range of patients beyond gastroenterology.
Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad with 38 years of gastro and liver care, founded VGM Hospital with a 40-bed facility which has grown into a state-of-the-art 150-bed hospital with 20 medical specialties. Since its establishment in 2009, it has been a trusted name in gastroenterology, treating over 2 lakh patients half of them being liver patients from across India and abroad. Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad is the pioneer in liver treatment of kongu region of international repute. From being the undisputed single leader of liver care three decades back itself, he has established VGM Hospital as the first hospital in the region with Advanced Liver Master Health Checkup. His Guinness world record with 13250 students in promoting liver disease awareness way back in 2012 is a standing testimony of his commitment towards liver treatment.
Now, after 16 years of excellence in gastro care, the hospital is expanding its services to include liver and kidney transplantation, advanced cardiology care with a state-of-the-art Cath Lab, a dedicated Liver ICU, a dialysis center, interventional radiology, and exclusive in-patient rooms. These new facilities will be housed in a newly constructed six-storey block dedicated for liver and kidney interventions, further strengthening the hospital’s commitment to world-class healthcare.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad, Founder & Chairman of VGM Hospital, shared his vision for the expansion.
“This is a landmark moment for VGM Hospital. Our new facilities will allow us to offer the same excellence in multi-specialty care as we have in gastroenterology. We treat patients from across Tamil Nadu, different parts of India, and even other countries. With this expansion, we can provide world-class treatment across multiple specialties,” he said.
He conveyed that the inauguration will take place on Sunday, March 16, at 10 a.m. Hon’ble Justice Vadamalai, Judge of the High Court of Madras, Thiru. Dr Mithra Prasad highlighted the rising incidence of liver diseases in India.
“While we have controlled Hepatitis B and C to a great extent in India, Alcoholic Liver Diseases, Obesity and Diabetes induced Fatty Liver Disease are tremendously on the rise in India. Excessive alcohol consumption and poor lifestyle factors like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol are increasing liver disease risks. leading to liver cirrhosis and cancer. With our government-approved Liver & Kidney Transplant Program, we can now provide a second life to these patients who have a poor quality of life,” she added.
Dr Madhura Prasad Suman and Dr Vamsi Murthy, the Directors of Endoscopy at VGM said that Obesity can now be treated through Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty obviating the need for Laparoscopic Surgeries yielding the same result. The ensuing weight reduction can reverse early cirrhosis and prevent the need for Liver Transplantation.
The hospital is bringing in a state-of-the-art cath lab and an experienced cardiology team replete with electrophysiology studies. This lab will also cater to Interventional Radiology with neuro and vascular interventions, liver interventions like shunting, TACE for liver cancer, advanced GI bleed interventions to save patients with blood vomiting will be carried out in our cath lab.
