Chinese authorities have been strictly enforcing internet censorship in the country, causing companies like Yahoo to face major problems.
Companies operating in China are expected to be politically sensitive and prevent inappropriate content and words. “All Yahoo services will not be active in China from November 1, due to growing business and legal challenges in China.” The company said in a statement.
China recently enacted the Personal Information Security Act, which sets out what information companies can collect and how it can be stored. Chinese laws also require companies operating in China to provide data as required by the authorities. This makes it difficult for Western companies to operate there because they have to face pressure in their country to meet China’s demands.
